Tell me mor

With Mor, you’re not just creating moments—you’re making them permanent.

Perfectly sparkly and ever so delicate, fine sterling silver and gold-filled chains are custom-measured to fit as a bracelet, anklet, or necklace. With a quick zap, the ends are welded together, giving you a crafted piece of jewellery that’s permanently locked in place.

There are no clasps, hooks, or bars to fuss with—just sleek, continuous jewellery designed to be worn as long as you want. And, if you do decide to remove it, you can do so at home, with ease.

FAQs

  • Chains are joined together by welding together a jump ring, creating a continuous loop of chain with no clasps or explicitly visible join. The word ‘permanent’ comes from the fact that these pieces of jewellery cannot be removed unless the jump ring is cut, which renders the jewellery as just a piece of chain.

Mor uses 925 sterling silver, and 14k gold-filled gold for all our chains and charms. These materials can be worn in water, and are long wearing. While general wear and tear will impact them, and care should be taken as with all jewellery, permanent jewellery is designed to remain on you until you are ready to remove it. Note: all chains can and should break if put under stress for safety, take care when wearing jewellery of any kind.

  • Permanent jewellery as it increases in popularity has gained many different names, such as forever jewellery or bracelets, welded jewellery, or commitment jewellery. If two ends of a chain are being welded or soldered together to create a continuous loop, Mor considers this to be under the banner of permanent jewellery.

  • The word welded brings to mind heavy-duty leather aprons and big protective masks, don’t expect to find any of that at Mor! Permanent jewellery is a delicate and quick experience where a speciality handheld welder is used that was specifically designed in the USA for low joule (3-10 J Energy Range) permanent jewellery use. We place a small protective patch under the area being welded and require both our customers and our welders to wear (minimum) shade 5 darkening glasses for safety, and after a quick zap on the jump ring with our high-quality tungsten electrodes the process is complete.

In Australia, permanent jewellery welders require no formal education to deliver this experience. However, to ensure our clients feel as comfortable as possible, Katie has completed an international Welded Jewellery Certification that is recognised by Rio Grande, experts in the jewellery field, as part of the Rio For Schools curriculum.

  • Mor uses 925 sterling silver, and 14k gold filled for all our chains and charms. These materials can be worn in water, are long wearing, and typically are tarnish resistant. Solid gold materials are available on request for select events (contact us for more information). Avoid contact with harsh chemicals or direct contact with perfumes to enhance longevity and avoid reactions and discolouration over time. • This refers to the amount of gold that is layered over a base metal such as brass, copper, nickel, or sterling silver. For gold plated and gold vermeil jewellery, this is done via electroplating with gold plating containing approximately 0.05% gold, and gold vermeil containing up to 0.5%. Gold-filled jewellery contains 5% solid gold of 14-20k and is added to its base metal via heat bonding in a thicker layer than its counterparts. With wear and tear, gold-filled pieces can still tarnish but due to the thicker layer of solid gold around the base metal, it is more suited to everyday wear unlike gold plated or gold vermeil. 14k solid gold chains are available at Mor but do require ample notice to source our stock and preferred styles.

  • While Mor focuses on creating bracelets, anklets, and necklaces—we can create any number of jewellery pieces based on a price-per-inch approach to chain. Contact us if you have something specific in mind you would like to discuss.

  • If, for whatever reason, you need to remove your welded jewellery piece, simply take care to cut through the jump ring with a sharp pair of scissors and store your chain in a safe place. Any chain welded by Mor that was removed in this manner can be rewelded by our team for a $15 fee. Read more about Mor’s aftercare and warranty information here.

  • As sterling silver and gold are not magnetic they should not affect things like MRIs, however, there would be risks if something happened that required defibrillator paddles. Ultimately it is up to the discretion of the person (or medical professional) as to whether to remove or not. Please note that Mor does offer complementary rewelds if you have to remove your jewellery due to a medical procedure. Similarly, with airport security, fine jewellery is typically ok to travel through security with—however, this may differ across airlines/airports.

  • For most welds, 15-20 minutes is all you need to get a piece of permanent jewellery welded from start to finish including signing your waiver, selecting and measuring the chain, charm choice, and the final zap. For wedding ceremony bookings this time is reduced to 5-10 minutes due to the preplanned nature of the experience.

  • At Mor, we welcome bodies of all kinds, so work to a flat fee. Our pricing differences apply to our bracelet, anklet, and necklace styles, and silver and gold materials—not the chan style or length you require.

  • Yes, we will allow enough time during your permanent jewellery experience to fill in a formal waiver before style measurement. For those under 16, they will need a parent or guardian to sign on their behalf.

  • Mor uses alloy chains (i.e. metal that is combined with another), for example, sterling silver is an alloy made up of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, like copper or zinc. If you have a metal allergy of any kind Mor does not recommend getting permanent jewellery regardless of the material used.
